Sports Massage Brighton: Recover Stronger, Move Better – with Advanced Techniques
Specialising in targeted therapy to help runners, office workers, construction workers, gym-goers, cyclists, active locals and just about anyone overcome tightness, prevent injuries, and recover faster. From prepping for the Brighton Marathon to tackling South Downs trails or easing desk-job strains, our sessions deliver real, lasting results.

I combine traditional deep tissue work with advanced tools like IASTM using RockBlades and myofascial cupping for deeper tissue release, improved circulation, and enhanced mobility.
What Is a Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a specialised, therapeutic form of massage that targets the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia) to treat, prevent, and manage issues arising from physical activity, repetitive strain, or daily life demands. Unlike a general relaxation massage or deep tissue, it is typically a focused session on specific areas of pain, tightness, or dysfunction, allowing us to go deeper and achieve more effective results in those problem zones.

For example, if you are a runner training along Brighton's coastal paths or prepping for events like the Brighton Marathon, we might concentrate on key lower-body muscles heavily used in running:

-
Calves (gastrocnemius and soleus) – often tight from pounding the pavements
-
Hamstrings – prone to strain and tightness from repetitive strides
-
Quadriceps and IT band – for better knee tracking and reduced lateral knee pain
The session hones in on these areas to release knots, improve flexibility, and speed recovery.

But sports massage is not exclusively for sporty or athletic people – anyone can benefit. Let's say you are an office worker who spends long hours sitting at a desk, struggling with tight hips and lower back discomfort from poor posture or prolonged sitting. In that case, we may dedicate the entire session to those problem areas, working on:

-
Hip flexors (iliopsoas) and glutes (gluteus medius/minimus) – commonly shortened and weak from sitting
-
Lower back muscles (erector spinae and quadratus lumborum) – overloaded from slouching or uneven sitting
-
Piriformis and surrounding deep hip rotators – to ease sciatic-like tension

This targeted approach helps restore balance, reduce chronic pain, and improve everyday mobility, whether your "sport" is running trails or simply walking pain-free around Brighton.
My Personal Journey with Sports Massage
My passion for movement ignited at 17 when I first stepped into a gym, buzzing with excitement and eager to build strength. But within a year, I suffered a painful hamstring pull during a set on the hamstring curl machine – a classic case of overloading tight muscles without proper warm-up or form.

From there, recurring hamstring tightness became a constant battle, compounded by lower back issues that flared up every time I attempted heavy deadlifts. Poor mechanics, muscular imbalances, and pushing through fatigue led to one frustrating injury after another, sidelining me for weeks and stalling my progress. On top of that, for many years I worked as a labourer on building sites, where my body took a tremendous amount of daily abuse – heavy lifting, awkward postures, repetitive strain, and long hours of physical demands with little recovery time.

The combination of intense gym training and gruelling site work created a perfect storm of chronic tightness and vulnerability. The breaking point came when one stubborn injury kept me off my feet far longer than expected, forcing me to finally address how deeply these setbacks were affecting my life. The breaking point came when one stubborn injury kept me off my feet far longer than expected, forcing me to confront how much these setbacks were impacting my active lifestyle. Desperate for real relief, I turned to trying all sorts of different modalities you name it i've probably tried it!

Desperate for real, lasting relief, I turned to professional sports massage – and that's when everything changed. The targeted deep tissue work, combined with advanced techniques like IASTM tools (such as RockBlades) and myofascial cupping, finally broke through the stubborn adhesions, scar tissue, and deep-seated restrictions that stretching and rest alone could never resolve. RockBlades provided precise breakdown of fascial restrictions in my hamstrings, lower back, and hips, while cupping dramatically boosted circulation, reduced inflammation, and eased the accumulated tightness from years of hard physical work.

That profound recovery inspired me to train extensively in these methods and dedicate my career to helping others in Brighton break free from the same cycle of pain, frustration, and limitation. Today, I blend my hard-earned personal insights from gym mishaps to building site demands with professional expertise in sports massage, RockBlades IASTM, and cupping therapy to support runners, gym-goers, office workers, manual labourers, and everyone leading an active life.

What to Expect in a Sports Massage?
We'll begin with a short, confidential consultation to discuss your lifestyle, training routine (or daily demands), past injuries, and what you hope to achieve from the session, ensuring the treatment is focused and relevant to you. You'll lie comfortably on the massage table (undress to your comfort level, with full draping and towels provided for privacy and warmth at all times). The pressure is fully adjustable and we'll communicate constantly so you remain in complete control guiding the intensity to keep it effective yet comfortable.
The session incorporates a range of targeted techniques, including deep tissue massage to address chronic tension, myofascial release to free up restricted fascia, trigger point therapy to release stubborn knots, IASTM with RockBlades for precise breakdown of adhesions and scar tissue, and myofascial cupping to lift tissues, boost circulation, and reduce deep muscle tightness. These methods feel purposeful and often deeper than a standard relaxation massage, promoting improved blood flow, flexibility, and recovery.
Many clients notice immediate looseness and relief during or shortly after the session, though mild post-treatment tenderness (similar to the feeling after an intense workout) is common and typically resolves within 24–48 hours, particularly on first visits or when tools like RockBlades or cupping are used.
